Commercial Plantation
A large scale plantation of commercial value has been launched from 2007, in addition to the ongoing regular plantation activities in the harvested cable corridor sites and degraded forest areas inside the FMUs. In view of the emerging market trend on growing demand for timber of improved quality, the plantations raised under this scheme are expected to meet such vital needs in the future.
DoFPS and NRDCL have jointly identified 350.60 Ha. of areas under Samtse Dzongkhag for commercial plantation. An Action-Plan for commercial plantation under Samtse Dzongkhag has been prepared. The plantation of 350.60 ha. has been initiated from 2007 onwards in a phased manner and plantation would comprise of only commercial species like teak, sal, champ, sissoo, bamboo etc.
NRDCL also has plan to carry out commercial plantation of valuable species in whole southern districts of Bhutan.
